Background
Minnesota law requires that all cannabis microbusinesses, cannabis mezzobusinesses, cannabis retailers, and medical cannabis combination businesses must provide customers and patients with factual information about the effects and health risks of cannabis and hemp products. OCM has developed educational resources that businesses can utilize and share with customers and patients to meet these statutory requirements.

Guidance 
What’s required 
Minnesota Statutes, section 342.63, subdivision 6, states a cannabis microbusiness, cannabis mezzobusiness, cannabis retailer, and medical cannabis combination business must provide customers and patients with the following information:

Factual information about impairment effects and the expected timing of impairment effects, side effects, adverse effects, and health risks of cannabis flower, cannabis products, lower-potency hemp edibles, and hemp-derived consumer products.
A statement that customers and patients must not operate a motor vehicle or heavy machinery while under the influence of cannabis flower, cannabis products, lower-potency hemp edibles, and hemp-derived consumer products. 
Resources customers and patients may consult to answer questions about cannabis flower, cannabis products, lower-potency hemp edibles, and hemp-derived consumer products, and any side effects and adverse effects. 
Contact information for the poison control center and a safety hotline or website for customers to report and obtain advice about side effects and adverse effects of cannabis flower, cannabis products, lower-potency hemp edibles, and hemp-derived consumer products. 
Substance use disorder treatment options.

A cannabis microbusiness, cannabis mezzobusiness, cannabis retailer or medical cannabis combination business may provide this information by:

Including the information on the label affixed to the packaging or container of cannabis flower, cannabis products, lower-potency hemp edibles, and hemp-derived consumer products. 
Posting the information in the premises of the cannabis microbusiness, cannabis mezzobusiness, cannabis retailer, or medical cannabis combination business. 
Providing the information on a separate document or pamphlet provided to customers or patients when the customer purchases cannabis flower, a cannabis product, a lower-potency hemp edible, or a hemp-derived consumer product.

Resources for businesses 
The office has created a resource that businesses can utilize and share with customers and patients to meet these requirements. The Guide to Safer Cannabis Use in Minnesota provides detailed guidance and resources for consumers regarding cannabis use and was created in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health.

While businesses are not required to use this specific resource, they can meet the statutory requirements laid out in Minnesota Statutes, section 342.63, subdivision 6 by either posting this information on the business premises and/or providing a printed version for customers to take with them as outlined in the statute. OCM will provide versions of the Guide to Safer Cannabis Use in Minnesota translated into languages other than English in the near future.
